I was laughing real hard when I read in the Internet report which quoted Sen. Johnny Ponce Enrile as saying that Pres Noy Aquino is the worst president the country ever had. Certainly, his observation has some relation to the fact that it was during Aquino’s regime when he was jailed for plunder together with Sen. Bong Revilla and Sen. Jinggoy Estrada. Until now Enrile is supposed to be in jail but considering his age of 92 and suffering from some ailments, he was released under hospital arrest. He is not free yet. I see Enrile’s greatest blunder in life is his great love for power and wealth. He could have retired long time ago and enjoy life at home with his children. He craved for more money instead and he met his waterloo in shame.

Sen, Koko Pimentel, during the last political campaign revealed that if Rodrigo Duterte wins, Jejomar Binay will be the first big fish who will go to jail. I surmised his speculation was based on the fact that Binay has several plunder cases pending relative to the alleged overpricing in the construction of the Makati parking building. As a matter of fact the senate Blue Ribbon committee recommended the filing of plunder cases against him. What aggravated the issue was Binay has acquired vast estates worth millions and even billions of pesos. Worst is he cannot explain his wealth.

Sen. Drillon announced recently that Sen. Koko Pimentel will be the next senate president. If this is the case, Kagay-anons have good reason to celebrate for a great honor and pride. Koko Pimentel, who grabbed first place in the bar examinations, came from a nice family in Cagayan de Oro. I know his grandfather “Aquio” who was very friendly and smiles to people around. Koko’s father then Sen. Nene Pimentel, my good friend, is genius, helpful and a prominent member of the senate. He rose from city mayor of Cagayan de Oro into the political skies all by himself, armed with nothing but his dedication to public service and ingenuity. He could have made himself president so easy but he was not interested.

Pres. Noy Aquino is leaving office end of this month. He has done many good things during his term which we should express our sincere gratitude. He reduced tremendously corruption in many government offices and even sent to jail the suspects of such crime. Our image got improved as we rose to the level of developing Asian countries. Of course, he cannot please all people specially in politics where meeting of the minds is just impossible. Let us not be ungrateful. We should thank him for all his works.

In a little more than two weeks, Pres. Duterte will formally assume office. We shall begin counting the number of people he will liquidate without trial. I am eager to see how far he would go in his big mouth declaring total war against crimes. I have been saying in this issue he will fall because crime is part of culture and living in any society. Anyway, he is entitled to the benefits of the doubt. I hope he makes it.

One of the things I want Duterte to improve is our agricultural sector which has been neglected thus we import rice from Vietnam and Thailand. This is a shame on our faces because we have vast of uncultivated lands as far as our eyes can see but we have been so lazy resulting in failure and hunger. Some of our past leaders were busy enriching themselves at the expense of the poor Filipinos.

Prostitution is illegal in our country but “legal” in some massage clinics. Some massage parlors indiscriminately offer the oldest profession for some amounts in air-conditioned rooms. I am not saying this issue causes so many people carrying the HIV/Aids virus but definitely some of them are. The government must put more efforts on this regard to protect the coming generations.

I wish to reiterate my previous suggestion to restore in high school and college the Philippine Military Training (PMT) and Reserved Officers Training Corps (ROTC). Our country is being threatened by the communists and our people do not know how to fight in case of invasion. We should wake up this early specially our politicians who are sleepy.

If we must amend our constitution, we should make it sure that parent who neglected their children should be punished. Children must be taught the bad effects in the use of illegal drugs and the consequence thereof. What we are doing now is making arrest everyday but people know very little the reason of such arrest. lf we can include this in the kids’ early education, the better to make them aware why it is illegal.
