PANGLAO, Bohol – Cycling enthusiasts from all over the country will pedal their way in the province starting today (May 29) just for fun and promote solidarity, according to organizers during the press conference at posh Bellevue resort in this town. The group will start early morning today from this town.
Dubbed as Gir D’ Luca, the three-day group cycling ride is a yearly celebration of triathlete Gianluca Guidicelli’s birthday. This unique but challenging celebration initially started in 2011 with just a bunch of friends but has since grown in numbers, opening registration to the public and with the backing of Sunrise Events, Inc. as organizer and Ford as main sponsor.
The ride will have participants complete a 530km ride in a span of three days, the distance representative of the celebrant’s 53rd birthday. It will kick off with an out-and-back ride today from this town to Jagna town and then back to Bellevue resort hotel for a total of 200 kms, the first and longest distanced ride of the event.
The second day will have the riders cover a total of 170 kms with the course going from the resort to Chocolate Hills in Carmen and then back again to this town. The third and final ride covers 160 kms will be going from the start line at the resort to Jagna and back to Bellevue Hotel.
Participants including celebrities Matteo Guidicelli (Gianluca’s son) and Victor Basa have the the option to join the three-day ride or just choose to ride two days or one since the event does not require the riders to finish the whole 530 kms course. According to the birthday celebrant, Mr. Guidicelli himself, “The objective of the Giro D’Luca is to have fun. It promotes camaraderie among fellow bikers covering long distances per day and they are not expected to compete with each other.”
Bohol was chosen as the official venue due to its awesome cycling terrain, making it a favorite training site vby cyclists and triathletes alike. It is expected to be the perfect three-day ride for those who would like to test their physical and mental endurance in the sport of cycling abd feel like a professional cyclist in a three-day endurance event.
Each day will be capped with post ride activities such as talks, raffling of prizes and a post-event dinner get-together all happening in the beautiful Bellevue resort hotel.
